The settlement by people of Polesskiy region has taken place in remote past according to the archaeological data. The first records about Luninetchina settlements concern to the XV century (1432 – the village Lunin, 1449 - Luninets).

In post-war decades an economy of the district was reestablished and continued to develop, especially from the beginning of 70-th years, after construction in Luninets a factory of electric motors and a mechanical-repair factory, and in Mikashevichi - the largest in Europe association "Granite". In 60-70th years a wide-ranging melioration of waterlogged grounds of Polessye is carried out. At the beginning of the 60th years a part of grounds of the disbanded Lenin district has been transferred to the structure of Luninets district.
